Becky Schisler (she/her/hers) is the founder and Executive Director of The Coalition for Cultural Compassion. In 2008 she earned her doctorate in School Psychology from The Ohio State University, a program that focused on the unique needs of diverse, urban student populations. Now the mother of a biological daughter and an adopted Black son, Becky’s vision for the CCC grew out of concern for the lack of support and opportunities available for having open and honest discussions about racial justice and learning about different cultures in her community. She is passionate about dismantling white supremacy and fostering meaningful relationships across racially and culturally diverse groups.
Danielle Stewart (she/her/hers) is a best selling author, small business owner, and mom whose boundless energy, creativity, and generosity make her the perfect fit for her role as the President of the Board of Directors for the CCC. Danielle organizes the CCC’s service projects and the Multicultural Series for Kids, assists with the Compassion Closet program, and plays a major part in the planning and execution of the annual Santa Experience.
Victoria Abdelfattah (she/her/hers) is an educator who has worked with some of Charlotte’s most impoverished students in her former 3rd grade classroom. She’s now focused on raising her three young sons and working tirelessly in the community to bring awareness to the unique issues faced by Charlotte’s Muslim population as well as helping to fortify the local interfaith community. Victoria serves as an at-large member of the Board.
Christen Hoover (she/her/hers) is a Charlotte native, a marketer, and a mom of two with over 15 years of non-profit experience who believes in speaking up for what’s right, even if your voice shakes. She’s dedicated to working for justice and bridging gaps in our community and is proud to serve as Vice President of the Board of Directors for the CCC.
Rachel Brown (she/her/hers) is a mom, a designer, and a mental health advocate with a passion for equality and justice. In addition to her many community outreach roles, Rachel served as a founding member of the CCC steering committee, and is currently the Secretary of the Board of Directors.
Molly McGoff (she/her/hers), a native Charlottean and proud Tar Heel, serves as Education Outreach Chair on the Board of Directors for the CCC. Previously an English teacher in urban middle schools and now a school counselor here in Charlotte, Molly continues to be an outspoken proponent of public schools, representation, and justice. Molly organizes the CCC’s Book Club as a way to highlight authors from historically marginalized groups.
Joshua Jernigan (he/him/his) is a transgender rights activist, teacher, and author who currently serves as the CCC’s Treasurer and assists with the day-to-day functioning of the organization. He is passionate about promoting accurate LGBTQ+ history and teaches online courses on Queer History. Joshua also founded and leads a nonprofit organization called Gender Education Network that is dedicated to supporting transgender and gender diverse kids 12 and younger.
